[content title="Description"]There comes a time when 1t 1s both useful, and appropriate, for
the purpose of continuing to expand our understanding of the
universe we live in, for entirely new fields of study to be created.
Separating new from old, exceptions from rules, and useful from
previously unquestionable. So learning and experiences from entirely
divergent fields have the opportunity to combine knowledge
and experience into configurations that allow further growth, understanding,
and impact upon ourselves as a species. It is in this
way that neuro-linguistic programming came into being. We wish
at this point to separate our NLP from the many felds from which [/content]

[content title="About the author"]
Robert Dilts has been a developer, author, trainer and consultant in the field of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) - a model of human behavior, learning and communication - since its creation in 1975 by John Grinder and Richard Bandler. A long time student and colleague of both Grinder and Bandler, Robert also studied personally with Milton H. Erickson, M.D., and Gregory Bateson.

In addition to spearheading the applications of NLP in education, creativity, health, and leadership, his personal contributions to the field of NLP include much of the seminal work on the NLP techniques of Strategies and Belief Systems, and the development of what has become known as 'Systemic NLP.' Some of his techniques and models include: Reimprinting, Integration of Conflicting Beliefs, Sleight of Mouth Patterns, The Spelling Strategy, The Allergy Technique, Neuro-Logical Levels, The Belief Change Cycle, Generative NLP Patterns, the Unified Field Theory for NLP and many others. [content title="Description"]Why is the brain divided? The difference between right and left hemispheres has been puzzled over for centuries. In a book of unprecedented scope, Iain McGilchrist draws on a vast body of recent brain research, illustrated with case histories, to reveal that the difference is profound—not just this or that function, but two whole, coherent, but incompatible ways of experiencing the world. The left hemisphere is detail oriented, prefers mechanisms to living things, and is inclined to self-interest, where the right hemisphere has greater breadth, flexibility, and generosity. This division helps explain the origins of music and language, and casts new light on the history of philosophy, as well as on some mental illnesses. In the second part of the book, McGilchrist takes the reader on a journey through the history of Western culture, illustrating the tension between these two worlds as revealed in the thought and belief of thinkers and artists, from Aeschylus to Magritte. He argues that, despite its inferior grasp of reality, the left hemisphere is increasingly taking precedence in the modern world, with potentially disastrous consequences. This is truly a tour de force that should excite interest in a wide readership.

[content title="About the author"]Iain McGilchrist (born 1953)[1] is a psychiatrist, writer, and former Oxford literary scholar.[2] McGilchrist came to prominence after the publication of his book The Master and His Emissary, subtitled The Divided Brain and the Making of the Western World.[2]

McGilchrist read English at New College, Oxford, but having published Against Criticism in 1982,[3] he later retrained in medicine and has been a neuroimaging researcher at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and a Consultant Psychiatrist at the Maudsley Hospital in south London.[3] McGilchrist is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, and has three times been elected a Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford. [content title="Description"]Recent developments within molecular biology and genetic engineering have led to huge advances and changes within the biological sciences especially within the field of human genetics. Diagnostic Techniques in Genetics offers an important overview of how DNA or RNA technology may be applied to a large set of genetic diagnoses.
The first part of the book focuses on DNA/RNA applications and includes many of the latest developments in the field combined with routine procedures of genetic diagnoses, for example cloning and sequencing DNA. The DNA applications presented in the first chapter are then each applied to a specific kind of genetic diagnosis and the text concludes with a chapter devoted to population genetics.

First published in French by Dunod in 2002, this book is an excellent reference for students taking courses in molecular biology, medicine and medical genetics. It is also a useful introduction for postgraduate students and researchers in the field who require a general overview of genetic [/content]

[content title="About the author"]The French baritone, Jean-Louis Serre, began his career at an early age with the demands of an all-boy choir at the music school he attended. He went on to study at Tübingen and Heidelberg Universities in Germany but was soon drawn back to his original love for music and entered the CNSMP (Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris) studying with Jane Berbié, Rémy Corazza and Marie-Claire Cottin, shortly thereafter joining the professional circuit as a baritone singer.

Of all musical styles opera is the place Jean-Louis Serre can give fully demonstrate his singing and acting talents. He makes regular appearances at concert halls such as Châtelet, Les Champs Elysées, l'Opera Comique but also Nancy, Toulouse, Tours, Avignon, Rennes, Angers, St Etienne and the Grand Théâtre de Genève. where his stage presence and unique vocal timbre are always praiseworthy. His approach to Oratorio repertoire is both enthusiastic and intensely personal; the early experience in a boys' choir has given him great insight into this work to which he has dedicated so much attention. [content title="Description"]Conservation genetics focuses on understanding the role and requirement of genetic variation for population persistence. However, considerable debate now surrounds the role of genetic factors (as opposed to non-genetic factors such as habitat destruction etc.) in population extinction, and a comprehensive synthesis is now timely. Can extinction be explained by habitat destruction alone or is lack of genetic variation a part of the explanation? The book thoroughly reviews the arguments for a role of genetics in the present biodiversity crisis. It describes the methods used to study genetic variation in endangered species and examines the influence of genetic variation in the extinction of species. To date, conservation genetics has predominantly utilized neutral genetic markers e.g. microsatellites. However, with the recent advances in molecular genetics and genomics it will soon be possible to study 'direct gene action', following the fate of genetic variation at the level of DNA, through expression, to proteins in order to determine how such phenotypes fare in populations of free living organisms. Evolutionary Conservation Genetics explores these exciting avenues of future research potential, integrating ecological quantitative genetics with the new genome science. It is now more important than ever that we ask relevant questions about the evolutionary fate of endangered populations throughout the globe and incorporate our knowledge of evolutionary processes and the distribution of genetic diversity into effective conservation planning and action. [content title="Description"]In the present book we concern ourselves exclusively with the qualitative analysis and synthesis of recurrent artificial neural networks. There is an abundance of papers, monographs, and books that address qualitative properties of such networks. However, whereas in these works, the analysis of the networks is frequently incidental to the achievement of some other principal goal, in the present book the network itself is the primary object of inquiry. Works in which the primary object of study is the recurrent neural network itself are rare. Consequently, many of the qualitative attributes and limitations of such networks have been ignored and are therefore obscure. [/content]

[content title="Description"]An unprecedented collection of cutting-edge experimental protocols for investigating the catalytic activities of DNA topoisomerases, as well as their specific interactions with topoisomerase-targeted antitumor and antibacterial drugs. Described by expert experimentalists who have perfected the techniques, these unfailingly reproducible methods include assays for enzyme-catalyzed DNA relaxation/supercoiling, DNA cleavage, DNA nicking, DNA decatenation, and ATP hydrolysis. Several modified DNA substrates, used to dissect enzyme mechanisms by trapping intermediates, are also described. Methodologies to determine the action of topoisomerase-targeted drugs include biochemical assays of drug-induced enzyme-DNA complexes, methods for assaying drug uptake, and cell-based assays for determining the specificity and mechanisms of drug resistance. A companion volume, DNA Topoisomerase Protocols, I: DNA Topology and Enzymes, provides state-of-the-art experimental protocols for investigating DNA structure, topology, and DNA topoisomerase function.

[content title="Description"]Imprinted genes, many of which generally control growth and development, frequently lose their imprints during cancer progression, a loss that then plays a substantial role in uncontrolled tumor growth. Imprint instability also appears to be a major limitation to the success of mammalian cloning experiments. In Genomic Imprinting: Methods and Protocols, Andrew Ward and a team of experienced researchers have brought together a collection of optimized classic and vanguard techniques for the identification and analysis of imprinted genes. The majority of protocols describe molecular techniques that allow examination of gene structure or expression in an allele-specific manner. Protocols are included for identifying and cloning imprinted genes, for analyzing imprinted gene expression, for the study of DNA methylation and methylation-sensitive DNA-binding proteins, and for examining chromatin structure. There are also methods for the manipulation of mouse embryos to produce monoparental embryos and embryonic stem cells, and for the generation of transgenic mice with BAC, PAC, and YAC constructs. Each technique is described in step-by-step detail to ensure successful results.
Incorporating a wealth of knowledge from leading exponents in the field, Genomic Imprinting: Methods and Protocols brings together all the essential molecular, genetic, and embryological methods commonly used in today's laboratories for the identification and analysis of imprinted genes. [content title="Description"]John A. Double and Michael J. Thompson have collected a critically important series of novel and essential techniques for studying telomeres and telomerase. These readily reproducible methods provide cutting-edge tools to identify, measure, and analyze telomeres, to determine telomerase expression at the RNA level, to determine telomerase activity, and to detect potential modifiers of this activity. The techniques for assaying telomerase activity range from standard radiological TRAP assays to nonradioactive methods, from non PCR-based methods to techniques using real-time PCR. Telomeres and Telomerase: Methods and Protocols provides the core array of productive techniques needed today to develop telomerase inhibitors or diagnostic/prognostic telomerase markers.
